Update suppression was discovered by Panda4994 and others in 2016 and can prevent block updates (screenshots in the attachment). For example, you can remove the block at the bottom of the Nether Portal, which is useful in large monster farms. Spigot does not support this feature but works perfectly in vanilla servers.
