      If the distance between a sponge block and a water-source block are 4 block or higher the water block will be down't suck. In vanilla are the distance higher: only from a distance of 7 blocks the water-source bock down't remove.

       

      This "bug" is still with 1.12.x with Bukkit, Spigot or PaperSpigot. Vanilla server are not affected.
