 Description   

Witch hut is not spawning witches. I build a witch farm (3 spawning pads (2 blocks high space with stone and soul sand alternated as the floor) with light level zero under a big half slab roof) in the bounding box of a witch hut. The afk spot is in the center and 120 blocks above the pads and everything except the spawn pads is spawn prooved (aka blockes removed).

If I load up the same world files in SinglePlayer or with Mojangs Vanilla Server, witches spawn without problems, however with spigot, no spawns occur.
So far I tried:

  • afking closer to the farm (tried e.g. 58 blocks above the farm)
  • setting mob-spawn-range to 8 or 16
  • setting entity activation and tracking ranges to 128

Further remarks:

  • Other mobs (if I move to spawnable blocks) seem to be able to spawn just fine
  • When I join the server, sometimes there is a (set of) witch(es) in the farm, but no new ones spawn
  • Spawn-limits for monsters is at 70
  • no other hostile mobs are loaded -> mob cap is not a problem

My solutution for future googlers, facing problem with witch farm and not spawning witches:

  1. I'm at Paper-1.19.2-210.
  2. Configure Paper "despawn-ranges" in https://docs.papermc.io/paper/reference/world-configuration#despawn-ranges. Vanilla is "monster: hard: 128".
  3. Consider checking Spigot "mob-spawn-range" in https://support.aternos.org/hc/en-us/articles/4402661469585-Mob-spawn-limits-and-mob-farming-on-servers. Vanilla is "mob-spawn-range: 9". Not crucial here, because witcher farms usually have vertical AFK platform nearly in the same chunk with spawning platforms, and "mob-spawn-range" is a horisontal feature. But still.

Same issue here, the farm was working perfectly about 5 days ago, suddenly the witches just stop spawning, I haven't added new plugins, nor changed any configurations.

 

However, the solution I found is to run PaperSpigot, thats the only way I can keep my plugins loaded and my farm working.

Included a link (valid for 14 days) to the world with the jars in the description (for convenience) and an upload of only the world without server files for persistence.

Problem can be reproduced by teleporting to the given coordinates and watching spawn rates or entity counts while standing at the afk-spot above.
